The short version:
- Your people, notes, recordings and photos are saved to your OldMate account, so they’re there on every phone and browser you sign in to.
- With your permission, OldMate sends what its AI features need to our AI providers, not linked to your account. They don’t train their models on it.
- We use analytics to fix and improve OldMate, and measure our ads on the website and browser app. You can turn both off.
- Delete your account at any time to remove what we hold.
This policy covers the OldMate apps, the browser app and our website. OldMate is run from Australia by Jonah Ease. For any privacy question or request, email privacy@askoldmate.com.
1. What we keep
- Your account: your email address and sign-in details. If you sign in with Apple or Google, OldMate keeps only your name and email address (or the relay address Apple gives you). With Sign in with Apple we also keep a token from Apple, used only to end that link when you delete your account.
- Your subscription: your plan, which store it came from, and when it renews or ends. If you subscribe in the browser app, your email address goes to RevenueCat and Stripe for checkout and receipts. We never see your card details.
- What you add: notes, recordings, the people you keep and photos of them, and the transcripts, summaries and follow-ups OldMate makes from them.
- Reminders: the reminders you ask for and how you want them, the time zone your reminders arrive in, and a token for each phone you turn notifications on for in OldMate, removed when you sign out or delete your account. If your account was made before reminders arrived, nothing is sent until you choose how reminders reach you.
- Settings and app activity: your preferences, how OldMate is used, device details and error reports.
- Support and security: messages and feedback you send us, and technical records such as IP addresses and request logs.
OldMate doesn’t read your phone’s address book, and only sees the photos you choose. Please only add details and photos of other people that you’re entitled to share.
2. AI features
Transcription, organising your notes, suggested questions and search by meaning use AI. OldMate asks your permission before any of it starts. With it, the words, audio and summaries a feature needs are sent to our AI providers, OpenAI and TypeSafe (and Google, for older versions of the app), not linked to your account. They process it only to provide that feature, and their terms don’t let them use it to train their models. Photos are never sent to AI providers.
To withdraw your permission, delete your account. That stops new requests, but can’t recall ones already sent.
3. Storage and backup
Your OldMate account keeps your memory in step across every phone and browser you sign in to. Backup is always on while you’re signed in: your people, notes, recordings, photos and settings are saved to your account, and the phone app keeps a copy so you can read it offline. Backups you manage yourself, such as iCloud, are separate from OldMate’s.
Your information travels over encrypted connections and is stored with access controls and encryption.
4. Who helps us run OldMate

We only use providers that protect your information at least as well as this policy does, and only for the job listed. Apple and Google also handle their own app store and device services, and sign-in if you choose Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google.
Your saved memory is stored in Singapore. Our other providers mainly process information in the United States, and may also do so in other countries where they operate, under contracts that protect it. We may share information where the law requires it, to protect someone’s rights or safety, or if OldMate’s business changes hands, with the same protections in place.
5. Analytics, feedback and advertising
We use PostHog to understand how OldMate is used and to fix problems. It records things like the features and pages used, where a visit came from, device details, approximate location and an identifier for your device or browser, linked to your account when you sign in. Analytics is on unless you turn it off; on our website, visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are asked first. Turn it off in Privacy Choices, Settings → Analytics in the browser app, or Settings → Usage reports on your phone.
Feedback you send from Settings → Feedback goes to PostHog when you press Send, with the version of OldMate you were using, linked to your account. Nothing from your notes, recordings or people goes with it.
On our website and browser app, Meta helps us see how well our ads work. Unless you turn it off, Meta receives page views and sign-ups, with advertising identifiers, cookies and connection details, and may combine them with information it already has. We never send Meta your notes, recordings, people, name, email or account ID, and our phone apps don’t use it. Turn it off in Privacy Choices or Settings → Advertising choice in the browser app; what Meta already has is covered by Meta’s Privacy Policy.
6. How long we keep things
- Your memory: until you delete it or your account. A deletion reaches your account at the next catch-up, and a small marker stays for up to 180 days so a deleted item doesn’t reappear on another device.
- AI requests: our AI providers may keep them for a limited time under their terms, for example to monitor abuse.
- Analytics and feedback: up to one year. Deleting your account asks PostHog to remove what’s linked to it.
- Reminders: records of reminders sent are kept for 90 days. A sent email can’t be recalled.
- Your subscription: our record of it goes when you delete your account; the App Store, Google Play, RevenueCat and Stripe keep their own purchase records under their own policies.
- Support: usually up to 24 months after your request is closed. Some security records may be kept longer where needed to prevent abuse or meet legal obligations.
To delete your account, go to Settings → Delete account, or ask us to delete it without the app. This removes your account and everything stored in it. We can’t reach devices that are offline or backups you keep yourself.
7. Your rights
You can view, edit and delete your information in the app at any time. To ask for a copy, a correction or deletion, or to make a complaint, email privacy@askoldmate.com. Depending on where you live, you may also be able to restrict or object to how we use your information, or withdraw your consent. We’ll acknowledge any complaint and tell you what happens next. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or your local regulator.
OldMate’s AI features are for adults 18 and over. If you think a child has given us information, please let us know. We’ll update this page as OldMate changes, and tell you directly where the law requires it.
